Rodney was a very close friend to us. Jeff and Rod were always together, playing tackle football in the park (no pads/helmet) or working our "real job" at the butcher shop. We always kept in touch and did meet up when we passed through Philly. His passing was a shock and hurt us dearly. Rest in Peace our G-Town Bear!

I met Rodney while growing up as a kid in the Moreland Apartments on Broad Street. Rodney was so funny. Sometimes he'd make the kids sandwiches and they were delicious. We'd be so excited when he'd ask if we wanted one! After distributing he'd tell us in what we thought was a serious tone, to get off of his porch or say ok now go back to play. As I grew older I'd see him smile after the serious tone. Rodney Jr. was always hanging around his Dad. When he'd pick him up and put him on his shoulder, it looked like Rodney Jr. was up on a tree! Of course all the kids begged to be picked up also.
When he needed to be serious he was. I remember Rodney saying each time I saw him, "If you ever have any problems you let me know and I'll handle it." Once I became an adult I'd see Rodney in his work truck. He'd be hanging out the window cracking jokes because he knew I usually was running late. He'd joke and ask "You want a ride to the train?" I asked where I'd sit and he said oh you can ride on the back but you'll get there and make it to work on time. I'd crack up. His smile and laugh was infectious. He also gave the best hugs. Even through some of my trails, Rodney encouraged me. Not once did he treat me differently.
When I saw him after he retired. He said I'm old now. I said no you're not old and he told me in a nice way-hey if I accept you accept it. I'm so glad to have been blessed to have known a true man of honor.
I pray that his family will be comforted and supported in the days to come. That they will share in memories that Rodney made-imprints in the lives of many! A gem that will not be forgotten.
