HER JOURNEY
Tonya Danette Simpson, affectionately known as "Tonnie," was born on April 27, 1970 in Philadelphia, PA. She was the middle child of three siblings. Tonya was the daughter of Jerry Simpson (who preceded her in death) and Paulette Simpson.
Tonya was educated in the Philadelphia School District and graduated from Olney High School in 1988.
Tonya gave birth to two beautiful daughters, Sadera and Shakera, who she called her "precious jewels." From Sadera, Tonya gained four beautiful granddaughters, who she called, "her four hearts in human form." She loved shopping for them, making them goodie bags, and cooking their favorite breakfast. At times, she would even state that she loves her grandchildren more than her own children.
Tonya worked at AAMCO Transmissions Company as an Accounts Receivable Clerk for five years. She later worked at Mathematics Civics and Science Charter School in Philadelphia. She had a passion for working with children. She enjoyed traveling and shopping with her sister, April. She also enjoyed baking, reading, watching basketball, and talking on the phone for hours with her mother. She loved spending time around the table at her Aunt Sandra's house laughing and having a great time with family.
Tonya and her Aunt Sandra always talked about opening a family restaurant named, "Anna Mae's Kitchen" after her grandmother. Tonya was known for her beautiful bright smile, famous cakes, and apple martini drinks. People would often request her to make them a personal cake.
For three years, Tonya attended Congregation Meetings Of Jehovah's Witnesses. As Tonya became ill, she continued to remain strong in her battle knowing that Jehovah had her back.
While hospitalized she would say, "I can't wait to go home to eat my hot chips and drink a Pepsi," which was her favorite snack. During her last days, she had plenty of visits from family and friends.
Tonya passed away on August 2, 2023 at her Aunt Sandra's home with family. Tonnie will be missed for her funny personality, love, kindness, and sweet heart. Tonya leaves behind a lifetime of memories with her children, Sadera (Nafis) and Shakera; her mother Paulette; her four granddaughters Lyric, Londyn, Leah, and Laila; her siblings, April and Thomas (Theresa), her nephew Joseph (Shannah), who was like the son she never had; her Aunt Sandra; her Uncle Ronnie; and her children's father, Vance. She also leaves behind her favorite cousins, Man, Lorraine, Tank, Nikki, Sonia, and Nanny; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
