We are all in this world together and we connected to one another. Some people may never cross your path. Some are strangers and others are acquaintances or colleagues. Those that leave an impression in our lives we call them friends and family. Today I come as family; cousin to both Alice and Beverly. Starting off by saying thank you Alice for giving me Beverly, a cousin born one year and one day before me, someone to be close to.
There was an age gap between me and Alice but not a distance. Alice was very close to my mother (Ruth Clark). They loved each other. Sometimes as children we go where our parents take us. But, Alice came on her own and by herself. She came to visit often. Those visits were filled with warmth and laughter. I didn’t hang around with the grown ups too much as a child. I don’t have specific memories or great stories to tell. I can speak about feelings .Chidren are very perceptive and generally know when people are “good”or “bad”. Alice was a loving, kind and generous person. She was “Alice with the good hair “ always wavy and curly, and it was so soft. She didn’t smell bad either. Kids notice those things when you go in for the hug. Alice was a beautiful, talented, intelligent, sassy and independent woman.Thank you Alice, again for the beautiful hand-me-downs that were Beverly’s, that made me feel not quite as poor as I really was.
We think we know a lot. We don’t. We think we can control things but we can’t. None of us decide when we are born into this world and most don’t make a decision to leave us. The time is never right and the heart is never ready. Age 91 is a long time, time enough to leave a warm and fuzzy feeling in my heart. We have a very large family. In it are those of us that refer to themselves as dinosaurs when it comes to technology. To name a few, Doris, Murphy, Robert, Louis and Bobby; they all want you to know that they love you Beverly and they loved Alice and felt loved in return by her. We as a family will never forget your mother.
Before I go I must say that I am fanatical about trees. Alice’s apple did not fall far from her tree. You set an example and excelled beyond words in caring for your mother. I’m sure that at times it wasn’t easy . You did so with grace in a selfless loving manner. I asked mom one time if she would like to come live with me. I won’t tell you what she said.Lol.
Here’s a toast to you and Alice.
Gone but not forgotten. Love you, Chris

When I was a young girl I used to really get excited when Alice came home as she used to bring her Sax over and play. I was sitting there just soaking in the beautiful sound and watching her finger play the notes. I was so proud of her and I thought she not only could play but was also a really beautiful woman. Her hair was always so beautifully done. It was just awesome to be around her. She was a good daughter and mother to Beverly and always sent Beverly gifts from her road travels. She was a joy and I loved her. She was a blessed woman and God gave her a wonderful daughter, Beverly who understood that she was to take care of her mom. I know she knew the blessing of Christ as she was blessed to have a daughter that honored her to this day by always being there for her during sickness and good health. She helped take care of her family and when the time for her to be taken care of God blessed her mightily. As the song goes She's now "Somewhere Around God's Throne" playing her horn, what sweet sound for them to rejoice, and my mother is there with her. She loved Alice and Alice loved my mom.
To Beverly, I have always loved you and always will. You are my favorite cousin and always will be until we part this earth and see each other again. You always make me laugh and that is so great for the soul. You're a special daughter and if only so many mothers out there could have a daughter like you. Wow, what a blessing you were for her. Love a lot, Laugh a little, and give thanks for the beautiful time the Father gave to you and your mom. May you be blessed to have that kind of Love happen for you in the days to come.. In Christ , your cousin Bert

I remember Alice Marie. I remember Alice and her talent. I remember Alice as a friend of my Aunt Bertie. I remember Alice as a classmate of my brother. Beverly, my recollections do not compare with those of yours and your family. Please treasure precious memories and depend on God to see you through any lonely days. Lois Platt Johnson

Beverly, my heartfelt prayers go out to you and your family during this time of loss. I always remember your mother standing in the backyard watching you take care of the lawn. She was quiet and always had a smile. Such a beautiful soul.

There was so much we never knew about the quiet lady who lived across the street from us. It was only evident that she was a mom who inspired her daughter to provide such loving attention to her needs for as long as she could. Today, that is a testimony in and of itself. Ms. Grubbs, obviously, invested in raising her daughter Beverly, who showed up in the old-fashioned way and "gave back" to her mom, providing the time and attention her progression through life required. You will know a tree by its fruit. Our condolences to the family, and prayers for your peace and comfort as you move forward through difficult times.

To Beverly and children, Linda, Sonny and the entire Jones, Mitchell, McKnight and Clark Family. We, the Miller Family from Denison, Texas wish to extend our heartfelt love and sympathy as we celebrate the life and legacy of Miss Alice. If you missed Miss Alice playing her saxophone you missed a treat!! Hearing her play one day in her mother's dining room left me speechless. The lady could PLAY!!! We believe right now she is sitting at the feet of Jesus serenading Him with "Lord, I thank you", "Yes Jesus Loves Me" and "Oh, Happy Day" as well as other soulful sounds. Weeping may endure for a night, but remember joy will come in the morning. This is not the end. We will see her again. Family, be encouraged. We love you..
