Obituary of Jones Audren Bedford Jr
Please share a memory of Jones to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jones A. Bedford Jr, 87, of Thorndale, Pennsylvania entered into eternal rest on October 15, 2024, surrounded by his loving family, at home.
Jones was born on September 7, 1937, in Chester, PA, the son of Jones Bedford Sr. and Lillian Bedford (nee Peck). He was one of six children. He is preceded in death by his wife, Marion; his daughter, Carmen Brundage; sisters, Delores Carter and Constance Coley; and brothers Howard Bedford and Rudolph Bedford.
Jones grew up in Philadelphia where he developed a strong work ethic and a deep love for his family. After finishing his service in the United States Army, he returned home with $1000 in savings. Always an honorable son, he followed the advice of his father to use his savings to start a business. Jones Bedford Sr. & Sons House and Window Cleaning was born. With the sudden passing of his father and then his mother, Jones found himself in the role of leading the business. While running the business, he also worked for General Electric.
Times were changing in the 1970s with new housing developments being built all over Delaware and Chester Counties. Jones saw an opportunity to make his passion for his craft his full-time career. His astute business sense combined with a unique window cleaning product and his charming personality gave birth to Jones Bedford Jr. House and Window Cleaning in the early 1980s. His late wife, Marion, supported the business administratively. The physical hard work was left to Jones, his sons, nephews and many other family members. With his loyal crew by his side, he became the preferred provider of house and window cleaning services for new construction for more than fifty builders. So passionate about his work, he worked tirelessly until his retirement in 2017.
Jones was a loving husband to his late wife Marion. They met at Dunkin Donuts while he was cleaning windows in 1975. He often said he could not have achieved as much success as he did without her. They enjoyed life together until her passing in June of 2021. They were best friends. Together, they enjoyed visiting with friends, neighbors and family; hosting family gatherings at their home; dancing and sharing everyday life together. He said that they were perfect for each other.
Jones was the middle child of six children and often fondly reminisced about growing up in the Bedford household. He enjoyed family gatherings with his siblings and their
children. Always the life of the party, Jones genuinely enjoyed sharing a laugh with everyone whether it was friends, neighbors or his beloved siblings and grandchildren. Well known for his green thumb, he could nurture any plant or flower into growing. He excitedly detailed his lawn which he took great pride in and could often be seen sitting outside enjoying the view of the fruits of his labor. Jones was known for his quick and witty sense of humor and his generosity and helpfulness to anyone in need; he was always willing to lend a hand.
Jones and his family lived in his Thorndale neighborhood for almost fifty years. Over that period, they developed deep and meaningful friendships with their neighbors, seeing each other through the highs and lows of life. One of his favorite daily activities was going to the Thorndale post office to pick up his mail and chat with the post office employees. Jones and his neighbors created a wonderful community.
Jones was fully embraced with love and devotion by his family, friends and neighbors. Jones leaves to cherish his memory: his children: Cheryl Bedford, Jones A. Bedford III, Tanya Brown (Anthony), Harlan H. Hunter Jr. (Verneda), Lisa Mitchell, Jennnifer Clark: his grandchildren: Nathan, Janelle, Alicia, Audren, Danielle, Alex, Alexis, Skye, Harlan III, Stephanie, Kayla, Andre, Eva Rose, Cory, Tyler, Christian and Joshua; his great-grandchildren; his sister Lillian Canty and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins and his entire neighborhood.
